Us southerners are known for our fried food

We fry anything that we can think of and it ALWAYS tastes better that way!

Fried Okra, French Fries, Tater Tots, Chicken Nuggets, Fried Green beans, Popcorn Shrimp, Cheese Sticks, Fried Chicken, Fried Pies, Fried Twinkies, Fried Squash....YOU GET THE HINT!

My little secret to cooking up all this fried goodness is my Fry Daddy! Many of you may seen it in your local Walmart, but did you realize all the possibilities!

Once oil starts popping your ready to go!

I use Peanut Oil in mine - Makes it less greasy

You will know its done when it floats! Let them sit a little longer for CRISPY!

ENJOY!

Putting a couple napkins on plate will absorb extra grease!

Joesph Eichler...

So I guess I am on an architect kick this week...
Joesph Eichler, known for the "California Modern" style built tract style homes in California from 1950 til 1974 and is one of the most influential builders in modern architecture today. Eichler not only built houses that went against the grain but he also sold houses to any race, ethnicity, or religion. His homes are known for glass walls, post-and-beam construction, open floor plans, low slopping or a-framed roofs, vertical siding and atriums (an open-air enclosed entrance foyer designed to further advance the Eichler concept of integrating outdoor and indoor spaces.)

Cliff May...

Cliff May, known as "the father of California Ranch Homes", built houses starting in the 1940s in San Francisco and Los Angles. He built houses for people who loved the California lifestyle. Located in sunny southern california they have 300 days of beautiful weather and his houses allowed the owners to enjoy it to the fullest.  Most rooms in his homes have floor to ceiling windows and many open directly to the outside (including master bedrooms). I can't tell you how much I love the look of these homes inside and out. The exterior is just as unique with the roofs, paneling and structure.

Several neighborhoods still exist in Califonia and almost look untouched from the 1950s. I was lucky enough last year to tour one of these neighborhoods in the Long Beach area and it was like stepping back into time.

Vintage Melmac Dinnerware

Melmac dishes are durable plastic dinnerware that gained popularity in the 1940s and 1950s. 

They are made from a Melamine resign and came in many bright colors, pastels and even some prints. Several Popular brands were Texas Ware, Boonton, Branchell, and Raffia Ware.

Because these dishes were so tough many of these sets are still around today for your enjoyment. They can be found at local thrift stores and flea markets for very reasonable prices. I have several sets myself and love them.
